I was looking for a way of doing the following:
- Recording tracks, speeds etc.;
- Allowing a live feed of progress to be viewed online by anyone interested.
After a bit of searching I came across the Sportstracklive Android App which is free but does not support uploads or live tracking, or the paid version which does.
You can see examples of the tracks produced here:
A combination of this app and a GPS and 3G enabled mobile phone provides the tracking required and live uploads. The only problem is, of course, that a mobile phone battery isn’t heavy duty enough to be running both of these continuously (and an Ordnance Survey map app, or which more another day). However, hooking the phone up to a second battery purchased from Amazon does the trick nicely. I bought the Anker 10000mAhbattery, this provides plenty of power for a whole day out, smaller versions are available, but for the price it might not be worthwhile getting anything smaller. In fact, the additional weight that you will be carrying around may be more important to you than the price.
