Converting CSV to RUPI for Sygic GPS

I have a copy of the Sygic GPS Navigation software on my phone, I wanted to add extra points of interest (POI). It sounds easy, but Sygic doesn’t seem to accept the common data formats such as those found for the RSPB sites here. The POI first need to be converted to Rupi format, here is how to do it.

1. Download the Sygic Rupi Convertor from here http://cdn.sygic.com/static/downloads/sygic_rupi_convertor.zip and extract the files.

3. Try to run it.

4. If it doesn’t work, try installing the Microsoft packages as per this page http://help.sygic.com/entries/22052447-RUPI-Convertor-exe-side-by-side-configuration-is-incorrect.

4. Try to run it, hopefully it now works, if it doesn’t then I am afraid I can’t help you any more!

5. Assuming that the Rupi Convertor is now running, click “Browse files”, select the file you want (I’ve only done this with CSV files so far) and click “Convert to Rupi”.

6. If the conversion has failed then the chances are that your CSV file issn’t quite right, make sure that the first line is correct, e.g. it is “delimiter=,” without the quotes. N.B. it is best to edit the CSV file with a text editor rather than something like Excel. There is more information here http://help.sygic.com/entries/22149526-Import-of-external-custom-POIs-to-Sygic.

7. I am running the Android version of Sygic so now all I have to do (from http://help.sygic.com/entries/22149526-Import-of-external-custom-POIs-to-Sygic) is:

  • Copy .upi/.rupi and .bmp files directly into Sygic/Maps/import. Do not copy folders.  If you don’t have an import folder then create it.
Please note that points of interest must be imported for each country separately.
  • Launch Sygic GPS navigation.
  • A wizard for import of custom POI will open after launch.

Hope it worked for you.

Oh, one more thing. If you want to delete POI that you have imported, go to Sygic/Maps/rupi and possibly a further subdirectory, then delete the most likely looking Rupi file based on the time that it was generated.
